Online Medical Interview Checklist

Admissions

2020-10-21

A handy checklist for your online interview.

Space

You need access to a quiet, clean and private space. If your home is not suitable, look for alternative options such as reserving a room at your school or a nearby library. If this is not possible, ask your relatives or friends.

Lighting and Background

Have a neutral, blank background and leave some space between your back and the wall. Make sure to have plenty of lighting in the room, and avoid direct backlighting.

Internet

A reliable and fast internet connection is a must (ideally a cable connection). Run an online speed test to check your upload and download bandwidth and ask your family to limit the use of the internet during your interview time.

Eliminate Distractions

Remind everyone in your household so that they don’t enter your room or play loud music. If you have a pet, lock your door so that it cannot enter. Put your phone on silent mode and close any unnecessary applications on your computer.

A no-phone sign

Back-up Plan

  • Have a second device ready, in case your computer crashes. Ideally, this is another computer, as you cannot see interviewers’ reactions as clearly on a mobile device.
  • Have a mobile phone with plenty of data to provide hotspot internet access if your internet suddenly cuts off or gets laggy.
  • Make sure the admission team knows your contact details in case any unforeseen problems occur during your interview.

By being well-prepared, you will be able to focus on your interview without worrying about possible glitches.

Rehearse and Final Check

Find out what programme is used for your interview (e.g. Zoom or Microsoft Teams) and install and test out the required programme on your device well in advance.

Have mock interview sessions with your family or friends so that you can check video and audio settings. Make sure your device is fully charged or plugged in.

Double-check your interview details such as the interview time and interview invitation link.
