The day of your UCAT is an important date to be fully prepared for and knowing exactly what to expect on the day can boost your overall performance and aid in managing your nerves. Here's your Medify's step-by-step guide to what will happen on the day of your UCAT.
As soon as you register at the reception, you will be expected to have some form of photographic identification and a printed/electronic copy of your confirmation email from Pearson VUE. Valid identification includes passport and driver's license. However, the driver’s license as ID will only be valid in the country of issue.
You will not need to take any stationeries or calculators, as they are not permitted. Everything you will need will be provided at the exam centre.
Make sure you go to the exam venue early, at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. This is necessary to allow for completion of paperwork before your exam such as handing in your ID.
At the venue you will be provided with a locker to place your personal belongings. Make sure you put everything in the locker as you are not allowed to take anything into the examination room.
Once the staff have prepared your exam, they will call you into the room. Make sure you go to the toilet if you need to.
Before you enter the examination room, an examiner will do a body check, they may even check your glasses too.
Once they are done checking you, you will be handed a whiteboard and a pen.
They will then guide you to your seat. There will be many other people taking different exams on the venue’s computers, so make sure you are very quiet.
At your seat, you will be provided with headphones or you can request earplugs if necessary.
When you sit down, you should adjust the position of the keyboard and the size of the headphones to make sure you can take the UCAT comfortably.
Take some time to prepare yourself and relax. Your 2 hours have not yet started.
Once you are ready, follow instructions on-screen.
Your exam will be in the following order:
You will have 1 minute before each section to read instructions. You can skip it, but this will not give you an extra minute to answer questions.
During the exam, if you have any issues, such as requiring a toilet break, you can quietly raise your hand. However, it is important to note your time will continue running.
After your exam, there will be an opportunity to answer a short optional survey on UCAT preparation and the quality of the venue.
When finished, you can raise your hand, and the examiner will guide you out of the room. Once you are out of the room, your UCAT results will be printed for you and sent to your email address.
You can immediately check your scores and calculate total scores.
You achieved the score you need to get into medical or dental school. Well done.
Even if you have not achieved the scores you needed, please still congratulate yourself for getting through a really hard process. You have done well. Plus you can always take the UCAT again next year. Do not give up on your dream.
