Medify is recruiting motivated humanities and social science graduates with excellent written communication skills to write multiple choice questions for the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) on a freelance basis. This is a flexible position that will be especially appealing to graduates with analytical minds and an interest in education. Note that this role does not require any experience with the exam or any knowledge of medicine or medical education.
In this role, you will write passages (two to four paragraphs each) on a variety of topics, along with questions, answers and full explanations. Verbal Reasoning passages cover a wide range of topics, including (but not limited to) British life and culture, trends in contemporary society and technology, artists and artworks, literary and historical figures and events, and popular science. The ideal candidate will be comfortable writing original passages in at least two or three of these areas, with the accompanying questions and explanations, all to the correct test specification.
You will work remotely on a negotiable schedule that suits your availability and interest, but you should be able to spend a minimum of 2–3 hours a week writing questions starting in October, 2023. Top performing writers may be offered the opportunity to work longer term on our question heatmap. The base rate for writing test content is £20 per hour. For candidates with two years’ paid professional writing experience, the rate will be £25 per hour.
To be considered, applicants must be graduates in the humanities, arts or modern languages. The ideal candidate will have previous writing experience and must be able to write clearly and effectively in English. We are looking to build up a team of Question Writers from a variety of backgrounds who are interested in contributing to our products on a long-term basis.
Applicants who pass an initial screening will be invited to submit a trial. Those who pass the trial will be trained to write test content to our specifications, and commissioned for their first assignment. Medify provides test prep products for a range of university admissions tests, so there are many opportunities available for enthusiastic and diligent applicants who produce high quality content.
At Medify, we’ve been widening access to medical and dental schools since 2009 by providing high quality test content and practice tools at an affordable price. We are the number 1 choice worldwide for UCAT test prep, and we are committed to giving prospective medical and dental students the best possible support.
Please submit a CV and covering letter explaining why you are a suitable candidate for this position to jobs@medify.co.uk. Your sample could be an essay, a piece of creative writing or a non-fiction work, but please avoid submitting an academic research paper or article. If possible, please avoid using your university email address to apply for this position.
