Freelance Question Writers – Fiction and Poetry Experts

Medify is recruiting multiple motivated and passionate graduates with fiction and poetry expertise and excellent writing abilities to write multiple choice questions on a flexible freelance basis.

The Role

In this role, you will:

  • Select suitable reading passages from out-of-copyright novels, novellas or short stories.
  • Devise sets of questions for the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT). These questions test a candidate’s understanding of what the reading passage says or implies, of a character’s feelings or motivation, or the author or narrator’s technique or subtext.
  • Craft detailed explanations to show how students could work out the logic of the correct answer and eliminate incorrect answers in a way that significantly contributes to learning.

Please note that this role does not require any previous experience with the GAMSAT or any knowledge of medicine or medical education. 

Pay, Hours and Location

  • This role will be paid at £20 per hour. For candidates with two years of paid professional writing experience in English, the rate will be £25 per hour.
  • You must be available to work a minimum of 8 to 10 hours per month.  Once trained, initial assignments will be small but may increase with further experience based on availability.
  • All writers will begin working with Fiction passages. With further experience, you may be invited to work with Poetry passages or to do more extensive work with Fiction passages.
  • This is a fully remote position for which you will need a computer and internet access.


  • You must have a degree in English literature, creative writing or comparative literature. Applicants with extensive experience writing fiction or poetry may have a degree in any field.
  • You must be able to write clearly and effectively in English, ideally with sustained interest in creative, journalistic or blog writing. Does not need to be paid or professional experience.
  • The ability to articulate thought processes clearly and effectively is essential.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

  • Applicants who pass an initial screening will be invited to submit a trial.
  • Those who pass the trial will be trained to write test content to our specification, and commissioned for their first assignment.
