What is BMAT – March?

The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is a two-hour exam consisting of three sections that is required by dozens of universities worldwide for admission to healthcare professional courses such as medicine.

There are two main testing sessions in 2023 - March and October. You can only take the BMAT once in an admissions cycle.

BMAT – March is usually required for entry to European universities. If you are applying to universities in the UK or Asia, it is likely that you'll need to sit BMAT – October.

Do I need to sit BMAT – March?

According to Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing, the following universities and courses require you to take the BMAT – March:

• CEU Cardenal Herrera University, Spain (Medicine)
• Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona), Spain (Bachelor's degree in Medicine)
• Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland (6-year Doctor of Medicine)
• Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, Poland (6-year MD in English, DMD Doctor of Dental Medicine)
• Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Poland (Veterinary Medicine)
• Vasile Goldiș Western University of Arad, Romania (Medicine, in English)
• Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma (UCBM), Italy (MD Program in Medicine and Surgery, for non-European citizens not resident in Italy)
• Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Lithuania (Medicine, Odontology, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine)
• Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Medicine, Greece (Medicine, in English)

The following universities accept either BMAT – March or BMAT – October:

• Universidad de Navarra, Spain (Medicine)
• University of Pécs, Hungary (Medicine, Dentistry)
• University of Rijeka, Croatia (Medicine)
• University of Zagreb, Croatia (Doctor of Medicine, in English)
• Medical University of Warsaw, Poland (DM Doctor of Medicine, DMD Doctor of Dental Medicine)
• University of Tartu, Estonia (Degree in Medicine MD)
• Estonian University of Life Sciences, Estonia (Veterinary Medicine)

Remember to double check with the universities that you'll be applying to confirm which test session you need to take.

What are the important dates for BMAT – March 2023?

• Registration opens 12 December 2022 (9am GMT)
• Registration and Access Arrangements applications close 5 February 2023 (11.59pm GMT)
• BMAT test date is 4 March 2023
• Results are released on 28 March 2023 (9am GMT)

You will need to register yourself and pay for the test via Metritests.

How much does BMAT – March cost?

Registration costs £150/€175/US$206. You'll have to pay £42 for results enquiries or appeals.
